Well, it was bound to happen.
We had a great vacation at a cabin in Wisconsin with our extended family on Mike's side. We enjoyed spending time together talking, laughing, playing games, eating, swimming (the kids--not me!), going to a couple of state parks, making s'mores and shaggy dogs (and, more importantly, eating them), eating popcorn and watching a movie, fishing (although not catching anything big enough to keep), riding on 4-wheelers, and going to bed late every night.
So, it was bound to happen. We returned from our trip, and immediately we needed to get ready for Mia's princess birthday party on Saturday. No time for extra rest! Mia's party went well. All the girls had fun. Mike took tons of pictures that I still need to upload and post.
But it was bound to happen. Because, you know, it just is.
Sunday afternoon Kylie was feeling really tired and had a headache. Sunday evening the headache hadn't gone away, and a stuffy nose began to manifest itself. Monday morning the headache was gone, but the head cold had arrived. Mia is also feeling some of the symptoms of a head cold. I am feeling uncharacteristically wiped out. I may be fighting it, too. Who knows?
But along with the head colds comes the need to take it easy and slow down. And that's okay. We are being a bit more relaxed here. We're still doing school but not all of it. Soup for lunch two days in a row. Tea with honey and lemon. Movies we can watch while resting. Pajamas and comfy clothes to wear while cuddling up with a book and pillow. These are the things you would experience at our house lately.
Even in the midst of head colds I have still seen the occasional smile, heard a cheerful hum, and felt the comfort that it is to just be home.
It was bound to happen. But in a way, I'm glad it did. I'm thankful for home. I'm thankful for slowing down. And I'm thankful for the togetherness we have as a family.
Oh, and I'm thankful for cough drops and cold medicine. Yes I am!

The peaceful setting you just described is making me want to come for a visit. That kind of environment is good for all sorts of things that ail us :-)
Hope you will all be feeling better by Saturday. Amy said that she is planning on coming to Southdale for lunch. So the choice has been made. I'll be glad to drive if you girls want me to so you can all rest in the backseat. :)
