Friday Family Fun Night

It's been a while.  I guess I had a little bloggy drought.  But I've overcome it.  Hence, this post.

Lately, we've been having Friday Family Fun Nights.  And they've been . . . fun!  Some Friday nights we pop popcorn and watch a movie.  Some Friday nights we play a game.  Some Friday nights we have pizza and watch AFV (America's Funniest Home Videos).  But this last Friday night was different.

This past Friday we went to McDonald's for supper.  Oh, this is an exciting occurrence.  For one thing, the girls were excited about getting Happy Meals and the enclosed Happy Meal toy.  Of course, first they had to check to see what the current toy was.  Because if it's a yucky toy, it's not even worth getting the Happy Meal.  They wondered if the toy was still going to be from the "Puss In Boots" movie.  Because if it was, they didn't care about it.  But it just so happened to be a Hello Kitty toy.  This was acceptable.

So, I placed the meal order while the girls and Mike chose a table to sit at.  Apparently, the best kinds of tables to sit at are the high tables with the high chairs.  This kind of table and chair set-up was available, so this also was acceptable.

I waited for a while.  (Since the fast in our fast food experience was lacking, we ended up just having a food experience.)  And while I was waiting I noticed a new sign on the menu.  Now all Happy Meals come with fries and apple slices!  "This is good!"  I thought.  No longer do my girls need to decide between one or the other.  "I am happy to be able to report this to the girls!"  I ruminated.

Finally, we all had our food and drinks.  We prayed a blessing over the food and dug in.  And I quickly found something out.  The Happy Meal with both fries and apples slices does not actually come with more food.  It comes with a miniature (and I mean miniature) box of fries.  And the apples slices are simply that.  Apple slices.  No caramel dip in sight.  Let down we were.  (I just reminded myself of Yoda.)  Anyway, I had more fries that I could eat, so I shared.  It all worked out.  But I kind of felt that the sign misrepresented.  And when I see a sign I want it to represent, if you know what I mean.

While we were sitting at our high tables in our high chairs, Mia noticed something.  I guess the high chairs do put you closer to the light fixtures.  She noticed that the light fixture above the table had little pieces of french fries and lettuce in it.  Gross!  She pointed it out to us, and after thinking about it, I wasn't surprised.  This particular McDonald's is very close to the local community college, and many college students frequent this McDonald's.  Picture this:  several freshman boys going to McDonald's for lunch in between classes.   These freshman boys are tired of sitting in class "listening" to the professor talk about things they feel they have no need to learn.  Finally, they are at McDonald's--able to talk and eat.  Okay, just eat.  They're not that into talking.  And somehow, the eating slows down and the tomfoolery begins.  Remember, freshman boys are not that mature.  That comes later.  Much later.  Anyway, this is the story I tell myself.  And I find it quite amusing.

Anyway, we had a great family fun night.  And it was a truly interesting experience going to McDonald's once again.  I just might not sit in the high chairs at the high tables next time, though.  I'd rather not notice things that I'd rather not notice.
